We are now in week four of the #Safer6 campaign and our teams have been busy keeping you safe during the hot weather. The campaign landed in Rowley Regis from 15 June to 21 June, which saw a variety of activities including speed watches, patrols and road safety operations.

A safe space was launched at Sainsbury’s in Blackheath for anyone who may feel vulnerable or worried and needs a space to be offered refuge. Officers were joined by partner agencies at Britannia Park to conduct a road safety operation.

We also conducted a community speed watch on Dudley Road with local councillors from Sandwell Council. A total of 248 vehicles were observed with only one vehicle driving above the speed limit.

Officers were joined by Sandwell Council’s anti-social behaviour officers to conduct patrols in our hotspot areas. We visited the Sandwell Youth Bus to speak to students and listen to their concerns Last week, #Safer6 landed in Wednesbury and in addition to our local neighbourhood activity we conducted a traffic operation to target the ‘fatal four’ offences.

These include not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone while driving, speeding and drink or drug driving. We also provided advice to shoppers at Gallagher Retail Park and handed out safety and crime prevention products.

This week the campaign has arrived in West Bromwich, so keep up to date with your local neighbourhood via WM Now and our social media channels. Share
