We are appealing for any further victims to come forward after a man was jailed for vehicle crime offences in Birmingham city centre. On 24 June, John Loughrey was seen loitering around vehicles on Edmund Street at around 5.30pm.
He then opened a boot of a Nissan Qashqai and stole a purse and sunglasses and put them in his rucksack. Loughrey then attempted to drive the Qashqai away.
However, he was disturbed by the victim and was detained until officers arrived. The victim鈥檚 stolen items were recovered along with equipment that is commonly used for theft.
The 54-year-old of Duddeston Manor Road, Birmingham was charged with attempt theft of a vehicle, theft from a vehicle and going equipped. Appearing at Birmingham Magistrates Court he was sentenced to six months in prison.
Following a search of Loughrey鈥檚 address, officers found a large number of sunglasses which are suspected to have been stolen during other offences in Birmingham. If you recognise any of the sunglasses in the image and can prove ownership, then please get in touch with us.
